EF Honolulu

Description supplied by school:

EF’s English courses in Honolulu combine innovated language learning with an escape to a tropical island. Our English courses are held in EF’s modern school, literally steps from the white sands of Waikiki Beach. EF Honolulu’s language courses are so close to the beach that many of our classrooms have views of the Pacific Ocean. Our modern school is equipped with a welcoming student lounge, an activities office and spacious classrooms.

I just got back from 3 weeks at EF Honolulu and I recommend it 200%! The school and the residence are super well located (close to the beach and shops), the teachers are friendly, understanding and interesting, activities and landscapes are whew (great): snorkeling with dolphins and turtles, hiking, possibility to go visit nearby islands, etc .; not to mention the "SPINs" which, alongside English, allow you to discover Hawaiian culture, learn to surf, to play ukulele, to dance the hula or to practice yoga! One of the most beautiful experiences of my life! Learning English in a setting like this is a living dream!

What could this school do better?:
This is not the primary purpose of a school, but I found that there were no organized parties at this destination! It's also a great way to connect with other students in the school.

General things about EF Honolulu: Hawaii is obviously a really beautiful island. If you want to improve your english, don't do it with EF. Its just way to expensive for what you get. If you choose the Intensive course as I did you will get just 2 additional "spin classes". There are some different spin classes which you can choose and change every three weeks. You will nearly learn nothing if you choose a spin class like surfing yoga or watching movies even though there are some other spin classes like you can choose like vocabulary where you obviously learn more. About the Organisation: Their advertisings are really good made but they won't tell you how it really will be, it seems like their only goal is to earn as much money as possible. They promised me for example that I won't have a roommate who is speaking the same language than me but they just didn't care about that. They also didn't tell me that i could just choose the general course (ESTA is required) instead of the intensive (Visa is required) and with that i could have saved 300 bugs cause of the costs of the visa... If you choose the intense course you have to apply for a visa which costs around 300 dollars. But if you take the general course you could just go for the ESTA which costs less than 20!!!

It's good to see the options of schools to study languages, but EF is definitely the best option and the one that will give you the best experience! The facilities are incredible and you will surely want to return after having been in such a beautiful place with incredible people and teachers! I 100% recommend travelling with EF to Hawaii or to any other destination ... The people there are super nice and who does not want to spend an afternoon watching the sunset on the beach with new friends and enjoying the weather? Dare to live the EF experience. I spent two weeks at EF Honolulu in January 2014. An amazing experience! The school is almost new, and located right in the city center, a 5 minute walk from Waikiki Beach. Teachers were always listening and very available. The courses are mainly focused on oral skills, which allows very rapid progress. The activity staff went out of their way to help us, and they can book any activity in the state of Hawaii! Moreover, the island of Oahu is full of activities: mountain climbing, treks, beaches, parachute jumping, snorkeling ... The international mix is good. The school is occupied by students from all over the world, of all nationalities! I was lodged with a Swedish student myself. The residence was located just in front of the school, and had all the necessary amenities. All in all, I highly recommend this school!
